Hi all.

We're going to do a lot of work on making the whole "community portal" thing a lot better.

There's going to be a big redesign, using feedback on the current one. So what we're interested is what features you'd like to see in our new portal?

Any reasonable suggestes will ofc be considered!

M.

how about maybe some decent user submited articals about netgamers related stuff so it would actually be worth checking the main site every so often instead of only when there's a global or a wallop. It isnt really much of a "community portal" atm there needs alot more comunity input, pointless competitions maybe, some polls, howtos, articals, reviews and maybe some user pages dedicated to the big channels so u could go to something like http://channels.netgamers.org/linux/ and find abit about #linux and the people that idle there, who's friendly and who's not ;) just for the big channels that regularly have over say 50 nicks in their nicklist to give it more of a comunity feel.

just a very simple little thing ... make a page with links to the main pages and main channels of the official games / partners?

Also maybe a more clear link to the gallery / stats such things? (or maybe even integrated in the main page?)

Well, the Stats url was stats.netgamers.org - until somebody decided to host a PA clone there too!

Anyway, the emphasis is going to be very much on "community", so ofc we will have more stuff like polls, competitions, user articles etc. Ads for channels too.

Keep the ideas rolling!

Pyros idea sounds great

"maybe some user pages dedicated to the big channels so u could go to something like http://channels.netgamers.org/linux/ and find abit about #linux and the people that idle there, who's friendly and who's not just for the big channels that regularly have over say 50 nicks in their nicklist to give it more of a comunity feel. "

you could add to this so people could vote for there favorite Channel/Community, get more community involvement :)

I was thinking of a user-editable thing where chan owners can write a bit about their channel. These would then be displayed randomly on the site, and people can vote for them - giving them more chance of being displayed.

well, tbh i like the idea about it being like "chans appear randomly (if the chan owner wishes) and if the chan owner has a topic too ofc"
naturally there would have to be some sort of limit on the channel list, though i must add that this could also cause some abuse (remember, the channel owner is not limited to adding as many people as he/she likes with say.. access level 1 to his or her channel)

having said that i still think it's an idea, though there'd need to be some serious ways of preventing abuse, and while doing so not making it "ugly" or rather "too much hassle for an owner to go through", what i mean is: some sort of system where like 10 channel members (obviously an extreme) have to auth for some sort of channel description to be displayed would just turn out to be "too much hassle" for some owners who would just like to promote their channel some.

keep in mind that i just picked up this "channel promotion" idea and was trying to make it clear that it (in my opinion) is a very good and contributes to the idea of making the portal more of a community, though it *COULD* be easily abused, if no "countermeasures" are taken.

therefore also some system like "any channel that has x members" (as you keep suggesting it, i will do so too - eg #linux) is an idea that still needs some working on ;)

apart from all of this stuff about channels and their promoting i agree with icewatcher and also find that some links could be more easy to find on the main page, and i also think that user articles (perhaps some designated authors? or any user who wants to say something pops this in a text-box and a random user is picked and displayed every day/hour/<any time unit you feel comfortable with>/<maybe even every time you refresh? - depending on the load ofc>

gosh, now that certainly was an unusually long post for me ;)
hope i didn't beat around the bush too much and made my ideas on this topic (so far) clear.

regards,
Mirddeh

Indeed, Much of the above is being taken into consideration, as we want this new development to be as user friendly as possible, and that means getting replies from you guys!

Is there anything you currently like about the site? ( This would help us greatly so that we can get an idea of what works, FOR YOU!! )

Is there anything that you DO NOT like about the current site? ( Again this is VERY helpful to us, so that we can understand what you don't like, and PLEASE provide reasons as to WHY you do not like it, so that maybe we can keep it, but change things to your liking! ( Suggestions of how you think things should be done are also VERY welcome! ))

Is there anything that you think needs Adding OR Removing? ( What do YOU want on the new site? Or alternatively, what just isn't working for you, and reasons WHY please!! )

You may think " Oh i've got a suggestion but i'm not really sure if they'll like it or it's needed.."

Well I'm always around in channels such as #netgamers for you to approach me and i'll be more than happy to discuss ideas with you, and to get feedback from the users..We're doing this site for you guys so this time, Let's make it work yeah?!

Thanks in advance, If you have anything to say, PLEASE SAY IT!, Web-Com and I are here for you guys, so speak up!!

Strifeh & The Web-Com Team

Well I said a link to a contacts page of some variety before, but tbh I don't think the thinks on the main page are particularly good in general (no offence ;-)). There could be clearer links to a lot of things.. commands.php for instance.

The "cservice menu" when you log into the site also isn't terribly clear.. Could it be brought up the page a bit, the very top menu or a link on the page when you log in, would be nice. Included in the "usermenu" below "settings", perhaps? If the navigation box were brought up above the calendar box (which never has anything in it, now that I think of it :-p), it would make it a lot more visable.

Okay, I'm done ;-)

It's coming along quite nicely... Rai is clearly "Teh Man", or so I'm told. It's just coming more slowly than expected, as Rai is doing it all himself and refuses offers of assistance!!

But no, it's good. "Soon"...
